I Don’t Have Anyone To Celebrate My Successes With

“Success is nothing if you don’t have the right people to share it with; you’re just gonna end up lonely.”

— Selena Gomez

Her voice sounded sad and tired on the other line. I could hear the weariness.

We were talking about her difficulties in launching her business and how hard it was with a partner that didn’t really get what she was doing. She felt like he just “tolerated” her business.

Then she said it. Those words that bring tears to my eyes no matter how many times I listen to a client say them and no matter how many times I talk about it in workshops.

“I just feel so lonely. I don’t have anyone to share my successes with.”

There it was.

The loneliness of being an entrepreneur.

That painful, ugly feeling at the bottom of it all. Whether my clients are telling me about their frustrations about being asked when they’re going to get a “real job” or how much it stresses them out to tell their partners they need to spend money on their business when they aren’t making much yet, it really comes down to the same thing.

Not feeling supported.

Not being understood.

Feeling lonely.

A lot of times, people don’t get how hard it is for an entrepreneur to just put herself out there in the world and say, “Hey everybody! I’ve got something that I think is worth sharing with you!”

Entrepreneurship is an act of courage.

And then after she’s committed to the journey, there’s the incredibly steep learning curve. Figuring out how to build a website. Creating things that her clients will want. FINDING her clients. Learning how to market herself to them without being pushy, even though most of it WILL ALWAYS feel pushy to her.

List building.

Networking.

Branding.

Sales funnels.

Saying her prices (which always sound too high to her) to someone OUT LOUD and crossing her fingers that they will sound reasonable.

More courage.

When you make some progress, like figuring out how to send your first MailChimp campaign, you feel like tap dancing!

And in that moment of enthusiasm, you run to your partner and say, “Guess what, Honey! I just sent a Mailchimp campaign!!!”

And your Honey says, “That’s great. Hey, what are we gonna have for dinner?”

Sigh.
